The Art of Comfort and Style - Transforming a Living Room
Our recent project in redesigning a living room encapsulates the essence of combining comfort with company. This space, a focal point of home life, underwent a significant transformation, addressing various elements like the ceiling, flooring, trim, staircase, entryway, front door, furnishings, and decor to create an inviting and harmonious environment.
The Challenge
Aspirational Obstacles
One of the primary challenges was addressing the popcorn ceiling. We explored options including painting, scraping, and covering, each with its own set of pros and cons. Another key aspect was to improve the lighting and flooring in a way that complements the clients’ preference for white oak and their desire for a modern yet timeless space.
The Process
Visionary Crafting
After careful consideration, we chose to cover the popcorn ceiling, significantly enhancing the vaulted ceiling's focal point and drawing attention upward to the second floor. The introduction of dimmable recessed lights and the installation of the elegant Fontaine Chandelier By Visual Comfort Signature added a grand and sophisticated touch to the room.
In addressing the flooring, our "less is more" philosophy guided us. We selected white oak flooring that seamlessly connected all areas of the home, including the staircase.
Modernizing the staircase was a crucial part of this process, involving the replacement of chunky wood spindles with a sleek, tailored finish and painting the risers to allow the oak treads to stand out.
Upon entry, the aged and textural flooring set the tone, incorporating a stunning herringbone pattern that echoed the feel of an area rug. This design approach aimed to create a harmonious and personalized aesthetic, ensuring each element worked in concert.
