Midhurst Kitchen Reno Reveal
The Midhurst Kitchen Renovation project embarked on a transformative journey, turning a once outdated and cluttered kitchen into a hub of warmth, functionality, and aesthetic appeal. The initial state of the kitchen presented a multitude of challenges. It was laden with numerous bulkheads that seemed unnecessary, requiring some detective work to decipher their purpose and whether they could be removed. The entire kitchen called for a comprehensive update, including lighting, fixtures, cabinetry that was previously left unfinished, flooring, and the ceiling.
The Process
From Vision to Reality
With the client open to layout changes, we centered the range on the main wall, which then became the focal point around which all cabinetry, lighting, and island placement were designed. The expansive wood island emerged as a showstopper, complemented by custom drawer arrangements for efficient storage of baking supplies, paper towels, and other essentials. The seating was diversified in texture, adding depth to the room's design.
Attention to detail was paramount in selecting hardware, where polished nickel added a touch of luxury and warmth, contrasting with the cooler chrome. The hardware, including cup pulls and latches, was reminiscent of those in the client's grandmother's home, adding a sentimental value to the space. The cabinetry was designed to resemble furniture, with double knobs on some cabinets enhancing this effect.
Open shelving was incorporated to display books and treasures, with interior lighting in the glass-front cabinets adding a subtle glow. The focal point adjacent to the island was the stunning range and hood, flanked by a rustic timber beam accent, bringing a touch of tradition and warmth. The lighting was layered to create different moods and serve various functions.
The backsplash was carefully chosen to add layers of tone with a grid of creams, warm whites, and greys, tying together the hard surfaces. Copper pendants complemented the warm wood tones and accentuated the shiplap ceiling, which cleverly disguised the previous light locations and harmonized with the shiplap in the living room.
As final touches, the kitchen was adorned with accessories that included vintage cutting boards, linen towels, fresh greenery, artwork, heirloom salt and pepper mills, cookbooks, and cherished decorative pieces collected by the client. These elements not only enhanced the kitchen's aesthetic but also imbued it with a sense of personal history and charm.
